I was at a big cinema in New York when Starship Troopers came out. I had read the book, but my enjoyment of Heinlein does not extend to supporting his eccentric Libertarian-neoLiberal Politics. Musk to the Max but better thought out! :)
Into the cinema trooped serried ranks of West Point Cadets, whose uniforms did indeed foretell Verhoeven's "Future Space Force" couture. For them, irony was what they used to make in Pittsburgh so they whooped, hollered and cheered uncritically through all his fascistic parodies. In retrospect, I can see how trump happened!

As news oozed of the latest Trump Triumph on Greenland, I watched with shock and awe how many news outlets relayed the Walrus's proclamation of victory. They were somewhat reserved but none of them could produce a single achievement in the US position that was not already there under existing treaties and understandings.
